Police Investigate Allegations Against Thunder's Josh Giddey: Possible Improper Relationship with Minor

The Newport Beach Police in California are delving into potential legal implications surrounding allegations against Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey. The claims, concerning an alleged improper relationship with an underage girl, originated on social media earlier this week. While an anonymous post, since deleted, asserted that the girl in question was a high school junior at the time, the involved social media account has been deactivated.

Sgt. Steve Oberon from the Newport Beach Police revealed that an investigation is underway to ascertain whether Giddey committed a crime within their jurisdiction. The NBA has also taken notice, with a league spokesperson confirming that the office is looking into the allegations.

Josh Giddey, 21, has opted not to provide a statement regarding the allegations. Oklahoma City Thunder coach Mark Daigneault has characterized the situation as a "personal matter" and refrained from additional comments, emphasizing that the decision for Giddey to continue playing is based on the organization's assessment of the available facts.

Despite these allegations, Giddey maintained his position in the starting lineup for the Thunder's recent games against the Philadelphia 76ers and Minnesota Timberwolves. Notably, he has been a key contributor to the team's 11-6 record this season, averaging 12.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. The unfolding legal scrutiny adds a layer of complexity to Giddey's promising career in the NBA.
