Report: Zion Williamson 'Doesn't Listen' To Pelicans' Pleas To Improve Diet, Conditioning

New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson is facing criticism for his fitness levels, with reports suggesting that the team has repeatedly emphasized the need for improvement in his diet and conditioning. According to Christian Clark of The Times-Picayune, despite these efforts, Williamson hasn't heeded the advice.

The concerns about Williamson's health intensified following the Pelicans' 133-89 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in the in-season tournament semifinals. Fans questioned his conditioning as he finished the game with 13 points, two rebounds, and three assists in nearly 26 minutes, while being overshadowed by a standout performance from the 38-year-old LeBron James.

This isn't the first time Williamson's fitness has been a topic of discussion. Since entering the NBA as the No. 1 overall pick in 2019, his conditioning has been under scrutiny. While he acknowledged the challenges of maintaining a strict diet in July, reports in September suggested that the Pelicans believed he was in good shape after notable efforts to invest time and money in his fitness.

However, recent comments from NBA legend Charles Barkley on NBA on TNT raised fresh concerns. Barkley pointed out that Williamson seemed out of shape, emphasizing that he relies on talent rather than running on offense and defense. Barkley suggested that Williamson might benefit from having a mentor to guide him in getting in shape.

Williamson, who is averaging 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.8 assists in 19 games this season, is shooting 57.4 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from deep. Despite his impressive statistics, critics argue that his overall game could be significantly enhanced with improved fitness.

As the Pelicans aim for a potential playoff run, the spotlight is on Williamson's commitment to his health, and his response to the team's concerns will likely play a crucial role in their season's trajectory.
